Culture, context & responsible travel.

Treat Udaipur as more than a photo stop. Build in time for Mewar history, miniature-art traditions, markets and a cultural evening. For food, travellers can explore classic Rajasthani flavours such as dal-baati-churma, gatte preparations and local sweets depending on preference.

October Star

One of the strongest October choices

Rajasthan’s winter travel season begins around October. Days are more comfortable than summer and evenings become cooler, making heritage walks, viewpoints and lake-side time much more enjoyable.

A city built as the new heart of Mewar.

Udaipur was founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II and became the new capital of Mewar. Its identity is inseparable from Lake Pichola, the Aravalli hills and a royal urban landscape of palaces, ghats, gardens and havelis. The City Palace grew as a complex of courtyards, terraces and royal spaces, while Jag Mandir on Lake Pichola carries a remarkable Mughal-era connection: Prince Khurram, who later became Emperor Shah Jahan, was given shelter there during his rebellion against Jahangir.

01

Mewar capital

Founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1553, Udaipur became the capital of the Mewar kingdom after Chittorgarh.

02

Palace city

The City Palace complex overlooks Lake Pichola and preserves layers of Mewar architecture, art and courtly history.

03

Jag Mandir story

Construction of Jag Mandir began in the 17th century; Rajasthan Tourism records that Prince Khurram — later Shah Jahan — was sheltered here.
