Smoke, Heat & Beam Detection
01 · WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?

Product role

Automatic detectors continuously monitor the environment and send a signal to the fire alarm system when fire indicators exceed their design threshold. The detector type should match the space and expected nuisance conditions.

02 · HOW DOES IT WORK?

Functionality

Smoke detectors respond to smoke particles, heat detectors respond to temperature / rate of rise, and beam detectors monitor obscuration across long open spaces. Specialist detection may be used for high-value or difficult environments.

03 · COMMON TYPES

Product family

  • Optical smoke detector
  • Heat / rate-of-rise detector
  • Multi-sensor detector
  • Beam smoke detector for high / wide spaces
  • Specialist aspirating / linear / flame detection where justified
04 · WHERE IS IT USED?

Typical applications

  • Office floors and corridors
  • Hotels and institutions
  • Electrical rooms
  • Warehouses / atriums
  • Data / control areas with specialised design
05 · SELECTION / SPECIFICATION

What should be checked?

  • Ceiling height and room geometry
  • Dust, steam, fumes and nuisance alarm risk
  • Airflow and HVAC conditions
  • Required detection speed
  • Panel / protocol compatibility and environmental rating
06 · MAINTENANCE

Keep it ready

  • Keep detectors unobstructed
  • Test devices through approved test methods
  • Clean / replace contaminated units
  • Investigate repeated false alarms
  • Maintain device addresses / locations and test records
IMPORTANT

Fire products should be selected as part of the risk and system — not by image alone.

Brand, certification, capacity, pressure, agent, hydraulic duty, device protocol, environmental rating and statutory requirements can change by project. We can help organise the requirement and quotation, but the final design/specification must follow the applicable code, approved drawings and competent professional / authority requirements.
